Fresh Flower Care

How To Properly Care For The Fresh Flowers You Just Received

· Parties,Floral Subscriptions

Whether you have just received fresh flowers, or treated yourself to a vase of beautiful blooms, you will want to enjoy your blooms for as long as possible. I want to share some tips with you on how you can prolong their beauty.

Before you have unwrapped your bouquet, prepare your vessel...

  1. Your flowers likely arrived with a little packet of flower food. Fill your vase with water, add the flower food packet, and stir to dissolve.  Flowers produce food on their own when their root system is still in-tact, but need help once cut. Your new blooms will benefit from this nourishment, so don’t throw that little packet away.

Then...

  1.  Remove any leaves from each stem that would be below the water line, or, ‘in the water’.  This step will help prevent any bacteria in the vase water, which would feed on any wet and rotten leaves.
  2. Cut the stems at a 45 degree angle. This step gives each stem more surface area, which will help the flowers drink more water.
  3. Change the water at least every-other-day, if not every day.  I simply put the vase in my kitchen sink and let the water run for a bit...flushing out all of the old water.
